At the annual South by Southwest festival, Scooter Braun and his team brought a whole new meaning to Sunday Funday. A collaborative concert featuring some of his management team’s biggest acts was arguably the most memorable part of the festival’s first weekend. After watching footage from the event, we figured it was only appropriate to give a few updates on some of SB Management’s stars. We only chose five artists for this segment but we have a feeling you’ll enjoy our picks.
Asher Roth: In 2009, Asher Roth took the world by storm with the release of “I Love College,” a track that became an anthem for young kids all over the world. The track sent Asher, Scooter Braun and College Rap music right to the top and it’s safe to say the music scene has never been the same. Five years are passed and Asher has moved on to bigger and better projects. Recently, Roth released “Tangerine,” a preview of his expected April 22nd album, Retrohash.
Justin Bieber: As Asher was loving college, Braun was searching YouTube and found a Canadian kid by the name of Justin Bieber. Everyone knows his story but we have some inside information on his upcoming work. Up first, his extremely successful Believe Movie hits iTunes next week! After the enormous success of the Believe Tour and Journals, Justin Bieber shockingly announced his retirement at the elderly age of 19. Someone should get Bieber a dictionary because “spending 29+ hours straight in the studio” doesn’t really fit into the definition of “retirement.” Bossman, DJ Tay James, has confirmed that this new music is some of Justin’s best work as he finds himself and rises from a few falls. A few Instagram snippets prove that Justin’s working extremely hard and creating a lot of Grade A work—all of which we’re excited to hear!
Carly Rae Jepsen: She captured our attention with Call Me Maybe (thank you, Justin Bieber) but it seems as if this Canadian has found her place as New York City royalty. Living every little girl’s dream, Carly Rae Jepsen has traded in her microphone for a pair of glass slippers! Her Broadway role in Cinderella, as the lead in true “go big or go home” style, has just been extended until June 8th giving you plenty of time to schedule a trip to New York City. Numerous Instagram posts from Carly have hinted at new music, which wouldn’t be surprising after such a life-changing experience!
Ariana Grande: Sticking with the girl power theme of SB Management, it’s time to focus on a small girl with a huge voice. Her transition from a couple of children’s TV shows to a music career had us skeptical at first but Ariana Grande has continued to prove us wrong. The release of her debut album, Yours Truly, truly blew us away so we’re anxiously awaiting her new music! Grande has spent endless hours in the studio creating masterpieces for her loyal fans. A collaboration track with Chris Brown has been confirmed, although its release date has since been pushed back. Manager Scooter Braun tweeted that Ariana’s single can be expected in the spring, which just happens to be this week! While we’re not sure of the track’s details, we know you can expect it very soon!
Cody Simpson: Spending a big chunk of last year on stage with Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber during the Believe Tour, Cody Simpson sung his way into all of our hearts but now he’s dancing his way into our living rooms! The seventeen year old is a member on the newest season of Dancing With The Stars, alongside partner Witney Carson. Dance rehearsals might be time consuming but that hasn’t kept Cody out of the recording studio. This past week, Simpson released his new sing, Surfboard, a track that makes us crave summer! A self-described “new sound,” we’re highly impressed and we’re awaiting more release information from the Australia native.
While we can’t explain the future plans of all of Scooter Braun’s artists in one article, we’ll be featuring many more acts in the upcoming weeks. While some have come a long way from their early stages and others are still trying to take their first steps in the industry, the talent is undeniable. There’s big plans in the works for these young stars and we’ll be watching and supporting each step of the way! What about you? Tweet us your thoughts at @weknowthedj.
