Between turning twenty-one and releasing her first solo album, July 2013 was a huge month for Selena Gomez but are things about to get even hotter for the former Disney starlet?
After unexpectedly cancelling the last leg of her Stars Dance tour in December for personal reasons, Selena’s return to music was questionable but things are definitely looking up for Selenators all over the world. We know Gomez has decided to take a yearlong break but with 2015 quickly approaching, we’re anticipating big things from the newly-22 year old! Notorious for posting cryptic photos on Instagram, it seems like Selena’s trying to let us in on a few hints regarding her comeback.
Over the past few months, Selena has shared hundreds of photos with her 11 million Instagram followers, giving them an inside look at almost every aspect of her life. While scrolling through the filter-filled photos, it’s safe to assume the “Come and Get It” singer is taking full advantage of her break while simultaneously preparing for her future. We’ve seen sneak-peeks regarding her upcoming film projects and we’ve watched countless videos of Selena with vocal coach Stevie Mackey, leading us to believe she’s taking the necessary transition very seriously.
Fulfilling her contract with Hollywood Records, it’s time for Selena to make her first impression as a WME Entertainment artist. Sharing a label with stars like Carly Rae Jepsen, Christina Perri, Jake Bugg, John Legend, Lea Michele, Sam Smith and Ziggy Marley, the possibilities are endless. We’ve seen Instagram appearances by Sam Smith and John Legend and while NOTHING has been mentioned, we wouldn’t mind seeing Gomez collaborate with either of the two stars! Last summer, Stars Dance debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 so expectations are definitely high for Selena’s next release.
The airwaves won’t be the only place to catch Ms. Gomez in 2015. She’s headed to the big screen, bigger and better than ever before! Selena’s newest film, Behaving Badly hit iTunes and Movies on Demand earlier this month, although it has a September 5 movie theater release date. Nat Wolff isn’t Selena’s only co-star as she prepares to make 2015 the year of the sequel. She recently flew to Miami to pick up the script for Spring Breakers 2, the sequel to 2012’s extremely controversial Spring Breakers. Trading bikinis and bongs for animation and Adam Sandler, Selena is also returning as Mavis in Hotel Transylvania 2. Rumors have been swirling about a couple of other film projects for Gomez but we’re still waiting for confirmation.
Taking a trip to Nepal with UNICEF earlier this year, I’m anxious to see how the life-changing experience will impact Selena’s career choices. When speaking of the trip to the poverty-ridden country Gomez said, “The visit to Nepal was extraordinarily powerful—at times, devastating and heartbreaking, but also incredibly inspiring.” Selena might have gone to Nepal to give back but it seems she’s the one who benefitted from the trip. Gomez said, “The children of Nepal have taught me that with a lot of passion, optimism and hard work, anything is possible. That’s the message I would like to convey to young people across the world: Believe in your dreams and pursue them.” If Selena takes that lesson and applies it to the future of her career, things can only result in positivity.
Watching Selena’s career grow from Wizards of Waverly Place to where it is now has been a rollercoaster but things are finally looking up for Gomez! Are you excited for her newest projects? What are you looking forward to most? Send us a tweet at @weknowthedj and let share your thoughts!
