Update on Dylan Holland

It’s been far too long since we’ve featured Cincinnati’s self-proclaimed “bad boy” on weknowthedj.com but absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? Although, today, absent is the last word I would use to describe Dylan Holland and his recent escapades. The Ohio native has been working his butt off to create the best music possible and much to nobody’s surprise, he’s succeeding! As an outsider looking in, it seems like Dylan Holland doesn’t know what a break is. As a friend of Dylan’s, I know he doesn’t know what a break is. The kid is on a mission. He’s continuously expanding his fanbase and taking the music industry by storm, all before his twenty-first birthday.

I know you’re probably thinking something along the lines of “Come on Meg, everyone’s trying to take the music industry by storm” but there’s no doubt in my mind that Dylan Holland is in a league of his own. He can’t legally enjoy a beer in the United States (yet) but at twenty-years-old, Dylan has already attracted an incredibly loyal fanbase, released countless covers of our favorite songs and toured the world numerous times. If you ask me, that sounds a lot better than an ice cold beer. Although, in my opinion, Dylan definitely deserves a celebratory round of drinks because to put it simply, he’s killing it. So Dylan, the next time you’re in New York City, drinks are on me!

For those of you unfamiliar with Dylan Holland, you may be wondering what calls for celebration so let me explain… On May 25, as everyone’s Memorial Day Weekend was winding down, Dylan released a new original song and as soon as the link hit the Internet, fangirls everywhere went crazy. Although, speaking with a spectator perspective, it seems fangirls are always going crazy when Dylan Holland is involved. The new track, appropriately titled “Tidal Wave,” hit Dylan’s SoundCloud around ten o’clock on Monday night and it’s clear that the three-minute song has quickly become a fan favorite! The link is posted below but I’m warning you now, be prepared to press the replay button!

Dylan first teased “Tidal Wave” on May 19 when he posted a fifteen-second snippet on his Twitter account and within seconds, his 311,000 followers were hooked on the untitled track. Between May 19 and May 25, Dylan posted a few more snippets and as each tweet/video was posted, his fans became even more anxious and excited. Once the song was released, I had the chance to talk to Dylan who gave me some exclusive information about the original song. During our conversation, he told me, “I’ve been experimenting with a lot of different R&B and hip-hop sounds. I released my first R&B original and then followed it up with Tidal Wave. I’m really liking how my sound is maturing and growing with me.” Well, Dylan, I think I can speak for music lovers everywhere when I say we agree!

Of course, that first R&B original that Dylan mentioned is “Finish It,” a track he released on SoundCloud earlier this month. For those of you who haven’t had a chance to listen to “Finish It,” I’ve posted the link below so definitely check that out in order to understand why we believe Dylan Holland is in a league of his own. So two original R&B tracks is exciting but… there’s more! In early June, the 6th and 7th to be exact, Dylan is packing his bags and headed to California to perform two shows. He’ll be in Los Angeles at The Mint on June 6th (tickets are available at http://m.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=5948275&pl=shealy) and he’ll be in San Francisco at the Brick and Mortar Music Hall on June 7th (grab your tickets at http://m.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=5957135). Unfortunately I won’t be able to fly across the country that weekend but if you live anywhere near Los Angeles and/or San Francisco, I’d highly recommend attending Dylan’s shows—if you scream loud enough, he might even play some new music!

I’m going to go listen to “Tidal Wave” a couple hundred more times but while I’m doing that, I want to know what you think of Dylan’s recent releases so send us a tweet at @weknowthedj and let us know!
